The Scent of May

It's been a long time coming but boy when it does it lifts the soul!

Wisteria, lilac, bugle, geum, lily of the valley, knotweed, maple, clematis montana, auricula, pansy, London pride, candytuft, geranium

My garden moodboard for May.

It's hard to describe the scent that is filling the room as I am sitting here. According to my gardener's journal this time of year I'm usually gathering lupins and stock to dot around the house. This year we are enjoying the delicious scent of wisteria, lilac and lily of the valley. The front of the house is dripping with flowers and to have the windows open allows the fragrance to permeate the air.

The pastel yellows and blues are now starting to give way to the more definite colours of Summer

(although the brightness of these blooms was the devil itself to capture on a sunny day!)

The profusions of tiny florets will soon give way to larger bolder flowers but for now they quietly get on, attracting the insects and helping the garden spring back to life.

Good old May - we knew you'd get here eventually!

  3. You must show your front garden as well as these delicate individual blooms. All these blooms are finishing up here now, but the lupins and iris are coming out. I walked past a Korean Lilac this morning and the scent from it was so intense!! Must investigate putting one in near a door or window :) Happy Weekend Jane! Wendy

  9. So many colours Jane! I really must go into the garden and see 'what's occurring!'. With half term week I haven't been able to do leisurely things so I think I will do my moody look and my teenagers will leave me alone in the garden! Have a great weekend! Chel x

  12. Dearest Jane
What a wonderful post. My goodness I love all those flowers and the scent of Wisteria, Lily of the Valley and Lilac makes me heady with happiness. How fortunate you are to have such a glorious garden with such delights from nature. I smelt some Wisteria yesterday when I was least expecting to, I love that feeling of walking down the road and then all of a sudden a deep floral scent arrives x Have a lovely hopefully sunny weekend x Penny

  14. What a beautiful collection from your garden. I can't believe your wisteria is blooming and your not that further south than us. We are nowhere near there over here and I certainly wish I was there soaking up the beautiful scent. Xo

  15. Ooooh, I'm taking in that lovely aroma. You are late this year, later than us in the Northeastern US, but as they say better late than never. Enjoy.
